All about Fairfield:No Public Pool? Now What?
So the public pool didn't make a splash, but what do you think we should do with the gift from our friends at Fairfield?

I understand that piece of land will have some nice views, so my suggestion would be to model a community center after the recently opened community center in Port Jeff. (The red building east of the Danford’s inn) The first floor could be a small picture museum, the second and third floors would house a small catering hall / study center. The third floor could have a wrap around deck for the views and to attract private functions. The land would be well landscaped. I personally would make great use of the study center.
I think it would be a good idea to try and get NSPL to relocate from the Shoreham HS to Downtown RP.Perhaps some of those funds could be used for a shared Commuity Center and Public Library.
I agree that a community center would be a good thing for Rocky Point. The idea of a shared Library Annex and Community Center is interesting, too. We need to reach out to people who live, work and own homes in Rocky Point and achieve more of a community feeling. I find that if you do not have a child that attends a Rocky Point school, you are left out of a lot of what goes on in the community. We need a place where we can all share our common interests. Maybe then, there would be more attendance at Civic meetings etc.
I think the idea of a community center is a good one. I also agree with John that we could make this an asset to the community by making it into a beautiful space. I have found that unless you have a child in the Rocky Point schools, there is little feeling of shared community. You are left out of the loop on some things. Perhaps if there is a place where we call can go and share common interests, regarless of age, whether you own or rent a home etc. there will be more community involvement and then perhaps more attendance at the Civil Assoc etc.
Good point about people without kids, and its function as a kind of a layed back meeting house / study center. As for the picture museum, we should tout our RCA history more.
I think the land should be left the way it is with trees and woods.Their is to much buliding going on its to small of a town for all this traffic and congestion leave the open spaces and little woods we have left alone.
Many of us would like the land left natural but neither the town nor county will purchase the property, we've tried that, we were luck enough to work out a deal where the owners will give some of the land to the community for recreational use, so we'd like to take advantage of that rather than losing it all to development. Does anyone know when our deadline is regarding our decision?
A sewage treatment Plant for Downtown will ensure future growth for the area.
Sidewalks along the Main arteries ofHallock Landing/Broadway/Harding Will connect our Beach areas to Town.We need to drive foot traffic for the district. The Sidewalks to the school are already provent to be a HUGE success. I wish we were a more foot frendly town.
The sidewalks are a good idea, I inquired 10 years ago about that on those roads but the town wouldn't do it. Frankly I think its outragous that the town will not install sidewalks on broadway and hallock considering the heavy amount of pedestrian traffic there. More people would walk these routes if there were a safer sidewalk to accomodate them.
I think Broadway,Hallock Landing and Harding(By Mccarricks) are the best three North/South exchanges between Town and Beach.Prince and King should be the East/West run. connecting at Apricot over to JAE.
Tides and Pickwick may want A North/South Run from Tides Beach to The Schools .
This is an Idea whos time has come.Just look at all the pedestrian traffic on the new sidewalks by JAE. I love it.
I agree with the sidewalks. Also the idea of sewage treatment, etc., but how do you attract business to downtown when there are so many empty stores now? Will sidewalks and sewars attract businesses? Also, how about moving some of the school bus stops to the sidewalks. There's one at the bottom of Kale and RP Landing that is very dangerous, kids always in the street and they can't be seen until you crest the hill. It's also very icy there in winter. I've written to the school and the bus co. last year but no change.
how about a new topic? Lots of concerns...illegal renting of homes zoned for one family to more than one; absentee landlords who don't care what their property looks like, etc. Want to revitalize downtown but what about empty buildings, like former Rocky Point Pharmacy. Let's talk!
Well, any one of the topics I threw out there would be fine. To elaborate on one: In my area of Rocky Point there are several rental properties surrounding us and my neighbors who own their own homes. We have encountered many problems over the years with landlords who ignore either the law (e.g.by renting to multiple families in homes zoned for one family) or rent their properties to people who either do not have the means or motivation to keep the property cleanly or safely. The landlords themselves are never seen and take not interest in the welfare of the tennants, neighbors or town. We have contacted the town and the local police about these problems and have encountered absolutely no cooperation. Is this something other Rocky Point residents have encountered? If so, then finding out what our options are or what the proper channels are to address these situations would be a helpful topic.
I am open to any topic that would enhance the experience of living in Rocky Point. This is just one that is of interest to my family personally.
i see alot of people in favor of a sewage treatment plant but where would it be located and how would it effect the people living in the general vacinity of the plant?
What gift? I'm sure that the civic have their own ideas (ie sewers for downtown Rocky Point), which will help us so much with the bustling downtown area. I'm sure that the SECOND Sandford & Son store with it's grossly crude hand painted sign will have great use for it. Come on people no one on the civic is going to do anything that the community want's it's all about what certain people want, and believe me it's not going to benefit anyone but them. M
I agree about the illegal rental of homes in RP. I know that in my area there are more and more homes going empty OR going to "assistance" type rentals. I notice that there are multiple people living in the home and they come and go. The landlord? Never saw him. They once left a dumpster in the yard for nearly a year and it was full of trash and smelling like a cesspool. No one would do anything and no one knew where the landlord was.
On top of that, the house across the street from me has several cars in the driveway (and many different states on the plates). I'm concerned that there may be some drug dealing there too judging by what's going on in full view. I've filed official documents and yet..... nothing....
I'm curious. How does Fairfield think they're going to rent their high-cost apartments when so many homes are empty here?
I'm very much against Fairfield coming in here. I'd like to know what we can do to stop it--if anything.
PLEASE GET INFORMED! Fairfield is not a rental community!!!! Owner occupied. And by the way... affordable housing equals 80 to 120% of median income... which equals $140,000 in Suffolk County. Certainly not low income.
Ok. Sorry. They're owner occupied. So... how are they going to sell all their places when AGAIN, there are SO many empty and foreclosed homes in the area? In my ONE block radius of my home there are 7 empty houses. 6 have been empty for more than 3 years.
FairField is wrong for this community... they say owner occupied, but waht happens when they can't sell their apartments. they will become rentals... more renters... less owners... renters by the most part can care less...we need responsible owners who takecare of their houses...
I lived in Condos in Ridge in the 80's. When the owners couldnt sell, they mostly went section 8. Could that happen in fairfield? I moved here to get away from that.
Campaign contributions to our elected officials by the developer Fairfield. Who are they representing the residents or the developer. And now they are asking for our vote and trust. I think they came to the conclusion that all people in Rocky Point are dumb. Get it in your head. WE DO NOT WANT FAIRFIELD IN ROCKY POINT. The only ones that are making money off of this development are the elected officials, developer, and the lawyerf I think his name is Steven and has a brother Dan.

How about a "Bark Park"....there seems to be a tremendous amount of dogs in RP

If we build it we will come.

Good question, "How do we attract businesses to the downtown?" that would be a good option for the next topic???
Good to know that we settled on the sewage treatment plant as a gift from fairfield, but where would it be located?

Hi, I submitted a lengthly answer to the question from Rocky Point Blogger, but I don't see it here. Do I need to repost it?
See post on illegal housing

Don't be fooled by those spreading lies.
